500 fishermen given subsistence allowance

MUKAH: A total of 500 fishermen received subsistence allowance in cash amounting to RM138,650 at Dewan Suarah Mesra, yesterday.

Tellian Assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo said, the monthly aid given by the government was  to lessen the burden of fisherman due to the unstable income especially during wavy sea.

“Hopefully the recipients will be grateful and thankful to the government and utilise the aid wisely,” said Yussibnosh when officiating at the 43rd annual general meeting (AGM) of Mukah/Oya Area Fishermen’s Association (PNK) as well as the handing over the assistance ceremony.

Meanwhile, the people’s rep said he will review the issue related with licence application faced by the fishermen.

He said, hopefully Mukah/Oya PNK will giving the details on the issue to him for further action as the issue was raised by the association chairman, Ali Hamid during his welcoming remark.

Yussibnosh also announced that the association had gained a total of RM13,870 profit in 2016 compared to the loss of RM60,000 in 2015.

Mukah Teritory II of Malaysia Fisheries Development Board (LKIM) officer, Mustam Nodo also said from 2008 until 2016, a total of RM10.8 million had been spent for fishermen’s subsistence allowance.
