5,055 pass 2017 STPM exam

KUCHING: The CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) for the state’s 2017 STPM (Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia) results has improved from 2.59 to 2.64.

This was revealed by the Director of the State Education Department, Rakayah Madon through a press statement which was issued yesterday upon the release of STPM results nationwide.

A total of 5,329 candidates registered for the 2017 STPM examination and out of the total, 5,055 were qualified to obtain their STPM certificates as compared to 4,680 candidates who qualified for 2016 STPM certificates.

On the passing rate, 15 candidates obtained full pass in five subjects, 3,370 candidates achieved full pass in four subjects, 923 candidates obtained full pass in three subjects, 477 candidates achieved full pass in two subjects and 270 candidates obtained full pass in one subject.

“In terms of individual achievement, a total of 51 students obtained a CGPA of 4.00, while 1,726 students obtained a CGPA of 3.00 and above compared to 1,428 candidates who obtained 3.00 and above in 2016 STPM.

“Three students, namely Bonnie Chong Kai Hui from SMK Green Road, Kuching, Ervina Tang Sze Cheen (SMK Chung Hua, Sibu) and Ebelind Min Slanjat (SMK St. Augustine, Betong) have achieved the most excellent results statewide for 2017 STPM.

“Meanwhile, Wayne Ho Xiun Liang from SMK Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Gapor, Kuching has obtained an excellent result in the 2017 Malaysian University English Test (MUET) statewide,” added Rakayah.

On the subjects, 12 out of 21 showed an increasing trend for the state’s 2017 STPM results. The 12 subjects are Bahasa Melayu, Bahasa Cina, Bahasa Arab, Syariah, History, Geography, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics (M), Mathematics (T), Biology and Sports Sciences.

In terms of school achievement, 24 schools managed to achieve an Average School Grade (GPS) of 2.80 and above. SMK Sacred Heart in Sibu has been awarded as the best school for 2017 STPM results statewide with a GPS of 3.35.
