595 partake in five-day army contest

KUCHING: The Third Brigade Infantry emerged overall champion for ‘Ujian Kemahiran Merentas Halangan & Kawad (UKMHK)’ competition 2018. The competition held in Kem Penrissen for five days from 22 January until yesterday was participated by 595 officers and army personnel.

The winning team will represent the First Division Infantry Brigade to the next army level competition which is to be held in Kem Perdana Sungai Besi, Kuala Lumpur, on this 19 until 23 February.

Officiating at the ceremony yesterday was First Division Infantry Brigade Commander Major General Datuk Stephen Mundaw. “Congratulations to the winning team.

This competition is held as a challenge to the physical and mental endurance of army personnel; besides that, it is also to sharpen the skills in leadership, control, fitness and weapons,” said Mundaw.. A total of four categories offered during the competition were ‘Combat’, ‘Assistance in Combat’, ‘Service Assistance and ‘Women Category’.

Winner for ‘Combat Category’ was 13 Royal Malay Regiment (RAMD), and in second place was Third Royal Ranger Regiment (RRD).

Winner for ‘Kategori Bantuan Tempur’ or Assistance in Combat Category’ was the Combined First Division Troop, and in second place was Third Brigade Combined.

Meanwhile for Service Assistance Category (Kategori Bantuan Khidmat), the winner was Ninth Brigade Combined, and in second place was First Division Combined Troop. For the ‘Women Category’ or ‘Kategori Wanita’, the winner was First Division Troop Combined and in second place was Third Brigade Combined.

Meanwhile, prizes handed also included the best platoon chiefs (men and women) won by Lieutenant Muhamad Azwan Salimi from Third RRD, and Lieutenant M Norasmida Jumari from Third KPD.
