70 participants in Sematan Triathlon 2017

SEMATAN: This town has the potential to become a destination for tourists keen in extreme sports like the triathlon. This was pointed out by Tanjung Datu Assemblywoman, Datuk Amar Hajah Jamilah Haji Anu when she officiated at the prize-presentation ceremony of the Sematan Triathlon 2017 at Sematan Town Square near here, yesterday.

“The holding of Sematan Triathlon will help to promote Sarawak to both local and foreign visitors. Hence, we must make the event the best including its safety aspects. “Sematan Triathlon is an attraction for sport tourists and also eco-tourism.

“This event is also able to uplift the socio-economy of the locals,” she said. She also encouraged the youths to take part in extreme sports in order to make Lundu as a Youth City. A total of 70 participants from throughout the state, South Africa, Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia took part in the Sematan Triathlon 2017.

Jamilah also disclosed that they are mulling to make the event an annual one. Chairman of the organising committee, Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan said the event was jointly organised by Lundu District Office and ZASS Event Management to promote the Lundu District as a triathlon destination. He added the event was also to improve the socio-economy and culture of the locals.
