80 summonses issued in joint operation

KUCHING: A total of 80 summonses were issued by the Road Transportation Department (JPJ) during an operation held at Kuching-Samarahan Highway here, yesterday.

The two-week nationwide operation from 9 to 23 February, 2018 is being held in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration.

Also taking part in the operation were State National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK), Police, Department of Environment (DoE), Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and others.

Director of State Road Transport Department (JPJ), Mohd Syafiq Anas Abdullah was also present during the two-hour operation from 9am to 11 am.

“A total of 102 JPJ personnel and 40 vehicles were involved in the operation throughout the state.

“Throughout the operation today (yesterday), a total of 80 summonses were issued. AADK also managed to detain 11 motorcyclists who were tested positive for drugs after urine tests, 20 summonses were

issued by the traffic police while six motorcycles were checked by the DoE with one summons issued by JPJ,” said Syafiq during a press conference.

He added that the operation was also an initiative to enhance the “Perception of Being Caught (POBC)” amongst road users

in others to reduce the accident rate.

“Our tagline is “Mengharmonikan Penguatkuasaan Di Jalan Raya”(to harmonise enforcement on the road). During this operation, our enforcement will conduct a special motorcycle inspection nationwide on 14 to 15 February and 18 to 19 February.

“The involvement of the public to make the road safety advocacy is a success is very much needed as well as to achieve our objective in reducing the number of road accidents this year,” he pointed out.

Also present was the Director of State AADK, Wan Madihi Haji Wan Salleh.
