BINTULU: A total of 520 workers from various countries were checked by the Sarawak Immigration Department Office here during ‘Ops Ikrar/ Ops Mahir’ at Samling plywood factory here last Tuesday evening.
The operation which started at 3.20pm was led by Senior Assistant Deputy Director, Mehuan Runies, Assistant Director Rosliah Kassim and Deputy Assistant Director, Shahrul Rizal.
The operation was a joint one involving the Enforcement Division of the Immigration Department and Enforcement Unit of Sri Aman, Sarikei, Sibu and Bintulu with a total of 74 personnel.
During the operation 82 foreign nationals were arrested under Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155) for not having valid travel documents to enter the country.
Others were detained for misusing their social visit passes and for overstaying after their visit passes have expired.
A witness at the scene was also issued with a summons to assist in the investigation.
All the detainees were taken to Bekenu Immigration Depot, Miri for further action.
