SIBU: A joint enforcement operation last Tuesday by Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) and Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) at Nanga Sungai Selidap near Bintangor had succeeded with a haul of 83 illegal logs.

According to a statement by SFC, acting on a public tip-off, a team comprising officers from its Sibu Regional Office and SRB was dispatched to the location where they discovered the logs at the riverbank.

“The logs comprising various sizes and tree species, with an estimated total volume of 20 cubic metres (m3), are believed to have been illegally extracted from a nearby forest because of the absence of official markings as well as the fact that no license has been issued for timber extraction in that area,” said the statement.

SFC said a report on the incident was lodged at Bintangor Police Station and the case was handed over to the relevant authority for further investigation and disposal.
