85 take part in Sibu Teenager Petangue tourney

Lea Sports Centre supported the event by sponsoring trophies and medals for three groups (singles, doubles, and triples) in Boys and Girls categories. LSC also providing official collar t-shirt for the association and organising committee members of the tournament.

SIBU: A total of 85 teenagers, comprising 45 boys and 40 girls aged 10 to 19 years old participated in the Sibu Teenager Petangue tournament held from Aug 5 to Aug 6.

The objective of the tournament is to select 14 players – seven boys and seven girls – aged 19 years and below to represent Sibu to the selection session of petanque’s player for central zone which will be held from Aug 27 to Aug 28.

The two-day tournament was organised by Sibu Division Petanque Sports Association in collaboration with Sibu Resident Office, State Sports Council of Sibu division and 10th Battalion General Operation Force Lanang Camp, Sibu and sponsored by Lea Sports Centre.

The selection of athletes for the central zone will involve three divisions, namely Sibu, Kapit and Mukah.

Each divisions will be sending 14 petanque’s athletes to compete for their place to represent the central zone for the Sarawak Games (SUKSAR) which will be held in December.

The four zones involve in the SUKSAR are northen zone (Limbang, Miri and Bintulu), central zone (Sarikei, Betong and Sri Aman), south zone (Kuching, Serian, and Samarahan).

Petanque is one of the sports that will be contested during the SUKSAR 2017, to be held from December 15 until December 18 at the Sarawak Petanque Arena, in Santubong.
