899.62 grammes of drugs to be destroyed today

KUCHING: The amount of confiscated drugs totalling 899.62 grammes with an estimated value of RM137,662.20 will be disposed of by the Narcotic Crime Investigation Department of the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters.

The Narcotic Crime Investigation Department Sarawak Contingent would carry out the disposal under the ‘Perlupusan Barang Kes JSJN Siri 1/2018’ programme at the Kuching Intergrated Waste Management Park (KIWMP) located at Mambong here today (February 7).

“The disposal of the items involved cases in several districts such as Kuching, Kota Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Mukah and Kapit. The confiscated drugs being destroyed started from 2008 right up to 2016,” disclosed Head of Management of the Sarawak Police Contingent, Senior Assistant Commissioner (SAC) Dato Zamani Hamdan during a press conference held at the Media Centre of the Sarawak Police  Contingent Headquarters, Jalan Badruddin here yesterday.

He added that the disposal comprised various types of drugs including Syabu which weighs 784.95 grammes valued at RM125,592, Ganja with 3.86 grammes at RM77.20, Ketamine with 4.6 grammes at RM552, Ecstasy Pills with 8.61 grammes (31 pills) at RM1,550, Erimin 5 with 2.53 grammes (13 pills) at RM260, Nospan Pill with 95.07 grammes (590 pills) at RM295 and Urine Bottle with 25.545 kilogrammes (778 bottles) at RM9,336.

“Altogether, the total of these confiscated drugs are 899.62 grammes with a total estimated values of RM137,662.20,” said Zamani, explaining that the procedure of disposal is carried out under the provision of the Inspector General of Police’s Permanent Order (PTKPN) D207.

He appealed to the people in Sarawak  especially the local community regardless of their locations to assist the police by providing or channelling any information on drug addicts or those involved in distributing so that actions could be taken and the problem of drug abuse could be prevented.

“We will take stern actions especially on those who are believed to be suppliers and distributors at any level not just in the bigger towns, district-levels but also smaller towns throughout Sarawak,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Narcotic Crime Investigation Department Sarawak Contingent, Supt Sahar Abd Latif said that the most sought-after drug in Sarawak was still syabu.

He revealed that the biggest seizure so far was when the police intercepted two cross-border drug distributing syndicates in September last year with 11kg in the first case and in the second case 5kg, with an estimated market value of more than three million ringgit.

“This year alone,  under Section 39B of Dangerous Drug Acts, there have been five cases,” he said, adding that last year there was a sudden increase in the number of seizures.
