SIBU: Ninety participants from 18 countries have so far registered for the Sibu Base Jump 2017 which will take place at Sarawak’s tallest building, Wisma Sanyan, here from Sept 22 to 24.
Sibu Resident, Hii Chang Kee told a press conference here yesterday that the United States had the most number of participants at 23 followed by Australia (17), France (12) and Canada (8).
He said 86 of the participants aged between 23 and 60 were foreigners while four were Malaysians.
Hii added said eight participants were women from outside the country.
This year recorded the highest number of participants since the event started in 2009.
The event, he added, was organised by the Sibu Division Tourism Task Group (SDTTG) and Sibu Photography Society (SPS).
Hii, who is SDTTG chairman, said SPS would be organising the event’s first ever Sibu Open Photography Contest.
The contest is open to all interested photography enthusiasts who have to submit 8×12 photo prints.
The entry fee for the contest is RM10 for SPS’ members and RM20 for non-members.
Hii said the closing date for entries would be Oct 10.

The top three winners will be awarded RM1,000, RM600 and RM400 respectively plus a certificate each.
There will be seven consolation prizes of RM100 each plus a certificate.
Hii added that in conjunction with the Sibu Base Jump 2017, there would also be a trade fair and exhibition at the Sibu Town Square Phase Two from Sept 14 to 24.
So far, out of the 100 booths offered, 94 have been taken up.
