KUCHING: A total of 91 prison officers yesterday received excellence awards during the 2017 Excellence Service Award Ceremony held at Auditorium Sri Sarawak, Puncak Borneo Prison here.
At the event, Letters of Credential for the State Prison Board of Visitors were presented and the 288th Anniversary of the Prison Day Celebration was also observed.
The ceremony was graced by the Chief Director of Prison Department, Dato’ Sri Haji Zulkifli Omar. Also present was the State Prison Director, Ajidin Salleh.
“Congratulations to the recipients. I hope this will be an encouragement and foster good spirit during work,” said Zulkifli.
Meanwhile, in his speech, Zulkifli pointed out that the rate of recidivists (repeat prisoners) in the state was the lowest in Malaysia.
“The number of recidivists in Sarawak up to February this year is 49 while the total number of prisoners in Sarawak is 2,468,” he revealed.
Zulkifli also revealed increasing incomes from MyPride product marketing and services since 2016.
“Last year, we received RM36 million compared to RM34.9 million in 2016 and this is after a collaboration with Farley Bintulu to market the products,” he said.
