KUCHING: A total of 99 mosques and 236 suraus in Kuching division received a contribution worth RM335,000 here yesterday.
The presentation of the annual contribution from the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) through Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak was an effort to assist the mosques and suraus to carry out their activities during the fasting month.
Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg was present to handover the contributions at Dewan Hikmah, Petra Jaya.
Also present were Chairman of MIS, Datu Misnu Taha, Acting Secretary of MIS and Acting Director of Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), Khalidi Ibrahim, General Manager of Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS), Datu Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie, State Legislative Assembly members, Members of Parliament from Kuching division, MIS members and heads of Islamic agencies.
The council’s overall contribution for the year 2018 involved a total of 1,444 mosques and suraus throughout the State which involved a total allocation of RM1,444,000.
