KUCHING: Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg mentioned that there are applications from other parties to join Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS). He said this to reporters after attending Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah’s Hari Raya open house held at Penview Convention Centre (PCC) at Jalan Bako here yesterday.

“Yes there are applications, but we are currently focusing on the official launching first as GPS is an entirely new entity. There will be surprises along the way,” Johari added.

When asked about speculations that GPS would be like the Barisan Nasional (BN), Abang Jo said that only time would tell.

GPS is made up of four former BN component parties, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP). The coalition is set to be launched on July 22, which is also Sarawak’s Independence Day.
