KUCHING: ACP Ng Ah Lek is the new Kuching District Police chief (OCPD) effective yesterday, taking over from SAC Abang Ahmad Abang Julai who has been promoted to the Management Department for Human Resources in Bukit Aman.
The handing over of duties ceremony was witnessed by state Police Management Department chief, SAC Dato Zamani Tan Sri Hamdan at the Kuching District Police Headquarters (IPD Kuching) yesterday
“He (Abang Ahmad) had set a benchmark which is very high for me to continue, it will be a challenging task ahead.
“Thus, I hope for the cooperation of all parties involved in keeping the district safe,” said Ng.
He added he would focus on Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun’s ‘back to basics’ initiative, which included avoiding corruption, combating gambling, organised crime and gangsterism, and intelligence-led policing.
Ng is a senior police officer who holds a Bachelor Degree in Law and he is no stranger to those at the Sarawak Police Contingent level or at Bukit Aman. He had a wide experience and had been serving the police for 38 years.
Prior to his present appointment, Ng was the Deputy Director of the Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (Law / Investigation) in Bukit Aman. He also once served as Padawan District Police chief before he was posted to Bukit Aman.
Meanhile, Zamani is confident that Ng will be able to fulfil the desire of the leadership to lead IPD Kuching toward further excellence especially in the aspect of combating crime, where Kuching is contributing the highest rate of index crime in Sarawak.
