Aidilfitri gathering attracts over 1,000

SRI AMAN: More than 1,000 people from all walks of life here and Lingga district attended the Batang Lupar-level Aidilfitri gathering at the Civic Centre here last Sunday.

The event which began from 3pm until 6pm was officiated at by Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim.

During the event, Rohani also presented ‘duit raya’ to children, senior citizens and the needy in Lingga district.

Earlier, Rohani in her speech urged the people to respect one another to avoid any unnecessary clashes such as bullying, abandoning and abusing children and domestic violence.

She added that her ministry was always concerned about the increase in such cases of late.

According to her, the ministry will also amend the Domestic Violence Act with emphasis on matters including violence elements to harm the husband, wife and children, in-laws and others.

She added that the Act will be amended to prevent violence in the community.

“The ministry is always adopting best practices and always concern with problems affecting the community,” explained Rohani, who is also Member of Parliament for Batang Lupar.

She also urged the local community to always assist the ministry in providing feedbacks on social and community issues to enable her ministry to address them promptly.

Many exciting programmes were also held including a weaving competition, lucky draws and singing of Hari Raya songs.

Among those present were Lingga Assemblywoman, Simoi Peri, Sri Aman Deputy Resident, Philip Peter Salam, Sri Aman District Officer, Ismawie Salleh and heads of government departments.
