APM receives assets worth nearly RM6 mln

KUCHING: The state’s Civil Defence Forces (APM) received eight five-tonne lorries (MAN) worth RM5,245,896 and a Amphibious Rigid Inflatable Boat 7.1 Sealegs worth RM640,000 from the federal government.

Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas officiated at the official handing over of the assets held at the Malaysian Civil Defence Centre, Jln Bako, here yesterday.

“As a chairman of the State Disaster Management and Relief Committee, I would like to thanks to the federal government especially Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Dato Seri Shahidan Kasim, Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for their commitment and concern in improving the services to the people of Sarawak especially pertaining to disasters,” said Uggah when speaking to reporters.

He added the new assets will able to assist in operation during disaster as well as improving the ability and mobility of APM.

Uggah also pointed out that the state needs another four of MAN to cater for the wide immensity of the state as well as to be placed in every 12 Division Disaster Management Department (JPBB).

“The total overall assets we have is 14, and for MAN we only have eight. This MAN will be placed in every division to cater for needs during any disaster,” Uggah said.
