KUCHING: The Asia Pacific Masters Games (APMG) Torch Run 2018 – Kuching edition flagging off today at 10am, starts from the Darul Hana Bridge, through major routes in Kuching City before finishes at the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Headquarters in Bukit Siol here.

The torch run which kicked off from the tip of Borneo in Kudat, Sabah last April 28 has reached Sarawak, to promote the first APMG in Penang.

“The first APMG to be held in Penang on September 7 until 15 is the first Masters multi-sporting event in Asia. Featuring 21 sports, athletes will participate in their own age group and category – in competitive, recreational or social interest.

“Apart from that, a total of 50 DBKU staff will join members of the public in the run and I will personally hand over the APMG Torch 2018 to the Penang Mayor right after the run finishes,” said DBKU Mayor Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai at a press conference yesterday.

The programme is organised by the Malaysian Association of Local Authority (MALA) and Asia Pacific Masters Games (APMG), with the objective to foster the relationship among the local government and authority, including promoting tourism, unity as well as closing the gaps between the government and the communities.

The run will be in the state for 10 days, followed by Langkawi, Kedah and also Penang, where the torch will be carried over through swimming across the ocean.
