Area’s rRM66m ‘gawai gift’

MARUDI: A total of RM66 million has been allocated for clean water supply project from Bian River to Beluru, extending to Long Tisam and from Beluru to Jalan Beluru, Lapi until the Bakong Atas River, here in Marudi.

Assistant Minister of Local Government, who is also Marudi State Assemblyman, Datu Dr Peguang Manggil said this project was a Gawai day gift to residents in the area.

“The RM66 million is allocated by the Ministry of Rural Development whereby the project later will benefit about 10,000 people in the area,” Penguang explained.

He said the project will begin in the very near future and will take three years to complete.

Meanwhile, he said the allocation amounting to RM5 million for Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) was also approved by the Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The allocation is meant to complete fully projects in longhouses, upgrading of rural roads to several primary schools in Bakong area including schools in Entulang, to repair roofs of school buildings, halls and other infrastructure projects.

Meanwhile, Penguang stressed the mini industrial project near Marudi Sports Complex is now also in the process of cleaning and clearing up the site.

Done at the cost of RM1 million, the cleaning and clearing up project will take a year to complete before the project proper can take off.

In another development pertaining to the Baram Regatta, Penguang said the preparations were carried out efficiently and he he hoped there are no other obstacles, particularly hoping the 14th General Election (GE14) will not be held this year.

Accordingly for Baram Regatta, Penguang said he himself will purchase two boats for SPDP members to participate.

Penguang made the comments when playing host to a Gawai Day visit by SUPP and SPDP members to his residence in Entrulang, Bakong recently.
