KUCHING: Aw Yong Jhie Jgin, 26, emerged the overall champion in the 11th Sarawak Amateur Masters Open Golf Championship 2018. Aw, from Bintulu Golf Club and working in the Oil & Gas industry in Bintulu, scored 221 gross points in the Open category 54 Holes to retain the champion title which he won last year. He went home richer with a cash prize of RM3,000 and the Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing Challenge Trophy and the champion’s jacket.

The second prize of RM2,400 was won by Lee Ka Tung who came in second placing with total scores of 223 OCB. The third prize of RM1,800 went to his brother Ka Tiong who came in third placing with total 223 gross scores. In the Open category Gross 36 Holes, Johari Aman carded a score of 140 OCB to be the winner. He bagged RM1,500 followed by second place winner Abdul Aziz Ismail who went home RM1,000 with a score of 140 gross.

Third was Michael Lee with a 142 to take home RM800. In the Invited Guests gross category at Matang-Santubong, Wong Koo Ching emerged as the winner while Wong King Hie finished second. In the Invited Guest gross category at Siol-Demak, first placing went to Nicholas Lau with a 78 followed by Then Su Yew with a 81.

In the Invited Guests nett category at Matang-Santubong, first was Lies Moo Shing with 67, while Ting Sie Loh who carded 69 OCB was second. In the Invited Guests nett category at Siol-Demak, the winner was Wilfred Mujah a score of 64 while second was Keelan Soon with a score of 69.

Deputy Chief Minister, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing officiated at the closing and gave away the prizes. The championship which was held at Sarawak Golf Club (KGS) from Aug 10 to 12, Petra Jaya, here, attracted 230 golfers from Miri, Bintulu, Sibu and Kuching. The championship offered total prizes worth over RM40,000.

Goodies for the Main Open and Invited Guest Categories were worth RM30,000. There was no winner for the holein- one prizes worth RM310,000 which comprised one unit of Harley Davidson Sportster Forty-Eight XL1200X value RM78,000, one unit of Harley Davidson Trike Glide Ultra 3-Wheeler (Limited Edition) 1700cc valued at RM205,000 and Golf equipment worth more than RM30,000.
