KUCHING: Raynorld Sigay emerged as the winner of Best Bidayuh Song 2018, while Cornelius Lim and Carrie Geres are the best Male and Female Vocalists 2018, respectively.

The award ceremony w a s graced by Member of Parliament for Puncak Borneo Willie Mongin during the ‘Ngarum Lagu Bidayuh 2018’ (NLB18) at Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) Hall, last Saturday. Organised by the Bidayuh Artistes & Musicians Association (Bama), the Best Lifetime Achievement Award was also presented to Jimmy Geres while the Bama Special Award was presented to Dewi Liana Seriestha.

In addition to winning the Best Male Vocalist 2018 award, Cornelius Lim also won the Best New Artiste, Best Ballad Song, and Best NonBidayuh Artiste awards. As for the Best Performance, Best Pop Song and Best Single Song awards, they were won by Michael Gayut, while the Best Duet/Group and Best Rock Song awards went to Mezzavoce.

Other awards that were presented that night included Best Album (Vital Sign), Best Music Video (Juliet Tan), Best Music Arrangement (Gideon Lanyun), Best Cover Album (Rozzi Chilli), Best Song Lyrics (Jiram Mijong) and Best Indie Song (Julian Evan).

According to Willie, the award is a good platform to boost the Bidayuh music industry as well as to encourage the Bidayuh community to be more involved in the industry.

“Bidayuh people are very talented and possess many abilities, this was proven with the success of our own Dewi Liana Seriestha who had won numerous awards in the music industry as well as excelling in modelling and beauty pageants.

“Music is used as a medium to express positivity and is also a platform for us to bring our culture forward for others to see,” he said. At the same time, Willie also announced an allocation of RM20,000 to Bama to finance their activities as well as to assist Bidayuh artistes.

“I also would like to suggest DBNA to provide a special room for Bidayuh artistes to practise or organise activities that can develop and showcase their talents to others,” he said. Also present was Bama chairman Dr Alim Impira.
