MIRI: The state Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is stronger with Baru Bian’s leadership and the party is unlikely to split, said DAP’s Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon.

“I believe he has the wisdom to decide what is good for both PKR and Pakatan Harapan in Sarawak,” he said when responding to a question on ‘some elements’ that are attempting to disrupt the state PKR chairman’s appointment. On the subject matter, Ting believed that a sudden rush of qualified memberships before an election may create unnecessary interference and activities.

“Whether the element is internal or external, it will be clearer down the road,” he said, adding that the party is mature enough to keep their solidarity together.

Recently, there have been talks amongst state PKR members that Baru might be replaced by Julau MP and Julau division head Larry Sng. During the party election, some disruptive incidents happened with the aim to disunite party members.

“He (Baru Bian) is an outstanding leader and representative of PKR in Sarawak and has worked well with both coalition party members DAP and Amanah,” he pointed out.

He said that all three parties have been cooperating well in the coalition over the past few years. “I do not see any problem with Baru leading PKR. The recent party election has also witnessed his well-supported leadership skills from the grassroots members,” he added.

He also believed that Baru is strongly supported by his members in Northern Sarawak in particular. “I reckon Baru has performed well and he has strong support from members and divisional leaders in Sarawak.

“The rumours of leadership challenge in PKR may come and go, but I believe the truth will prevail in due course. “I hope he will continue to lead his party and Pakatan Harapan Sarawak for the coming state election,” he said.
