KUCHING: Song District Fire and Rescue Services Station (BBP Song) in Song yesterday received at 8.15am a distressed call diverted from Song District Police headquarters about a landslide at a longhouse Rumah Beragok, Nanga Engkuah, Katibas, Song, a press release from Sarawak State Bomba Operation Centre in Kuching yesterday.

Upon receiving the call Song District Fire Station immediately moved its assets including a rescue boat manned by two personnel led PBK II Justin anak Basik who was the Operations Commander.

The Rescue Boat reached the destination at 11.40hrs, said the press statement. It was found that the landslide took place about 10 metres from the common gallery (ruai) of the said longhouse (Rumah Beragok) whereas from the kitchen side, a piece of land about 40 metre square in width had eroded just about five metre from the  31-door longhouse.

Bomba personnel involved in the operation checked on the damages due to the landslide and made sure the danger was contained. They advised the longhouse occupants to move to neighbours’homes if rain persisted and that signs of landslide are imminent.

A total of 168 residents are staying in the longhouse, the statement concluded.

Apart from the others involved in containing he tragedy, BBP Song would also like to extend its heartful appreciation to two policemen who lent their help during the operation, the statement concluded.
