KUCHING: Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) recently held a fire drill in collaboration with Kuching District Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

BCCK, in a statement yesterday, said the fire drill was the culmination of a three-day fire fighting training course conducted from August 15 to 17.

A total of 50 staff took part in the training which provided them the basic knowledge and exposure to fighting fires at the workplace. They were assigned different roles during the fire drill and a rescue scenario was created to familiarise the emergency response team (ERT) members on the emergency procedure.

“This is the biggest fire drill that the BCCK has conducted on top of the numerous fire drills carried out over the years. We are grateful to Bomba for committing their personnel and time giving our staff the opportunity practise and experience an emergency evacuation through a simulated situation. With this latest training, our staff are even better prepared to handle situations during emergencies without compromising the safety of occupants and the premises.

“Our Occupational Safety and Health Committee deserves a pat on the back for a well-coordinated training and drill,” said Eric van Piggelen, BCCK chief executive officer.

The fire fighting and evacuation drill was carried out by a team of firefighters from Tabuan Jaya fire station, led by Senior Fire Officer II, Chaplin Wan.
