KUCHING: The mayor of Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai urged uniformed bodies to be on their best discipline and abide by the law when they are in uniforms. Abang Wahap pointed this out during DBKU’s Uniform Unit Monthly Assembly held at DBKU Headquarters here, yesterday.

“There were many cases of enforcement officers being caught red handed. Police officers were caught on camera smoking in non-smoking areas while they are in uniforms which have made members of the public to question the integrity of their enforcement power.

“In DBKU’s case, photographs were sent to me directly where our vehicle was parked along yellow line somewhere at Carpenter Street.

“This is an act of indiscipline. Even if it is the fault of one person, it reflects and affects the whole image and reputation of DBKU.

“DBKU is a law enforcement agency and hence for any staff to not uphold the law is very disheartening,” said Abang Wahap.

Apart from that, Abang Wahap also announced that DBKU would be implementing a vehicle clamping system once their clamping licence is approved next year.

“Other local authorities that have implemented the system can collect up to RM50,000. “However, it is not because of the amount collected that we are implementing the system but rather to educate our people for a better Kuching,” he explained.
