MIRI: Mountain climbers are advised to be physically prepared before attempting to climb any mountain.

Mulu National Park administration manager Bian Rumei said climbers must always cooperate with the official mountain guides travelling with them to avoid any incidents from happening.

“For safety purposes, climbers are normally accompanied by trained guides who are familiar with the mountain treks and trails at Mulu National Park here,” he said when contacted yesterday.

He explained all guides were always equipped with walkie-talkies whenever they took climbers up in order to inform the Mulu headquarters in case of emergencies.

“For safety reasons, all planned climbing trips will be cancelled by the management if the weather is bad until it clears up,” he said.

He added Mulu had three treks namely, The Pinnacles, The Headhunter’s Trail and Gunung Mulu Summit Trek, and all of them required a certain level of physical fitness.

He added that those below the age of 16 were not allowed to climb the mountain.
