KUCHING: MPs from Sarawak must speak for the state and the people before anything else, no matter their party affiliation.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said these MPs should

not speak up to defend Malaya whether inside or outside Parliament.

Dr Sim, who is also SUPP president, said: “All Sarawak MPs are of the people of Sarawak, by the people of Sarawak and for the people of Sarawak, hence must be at all times, Sarawak First.”

Dr Sim called on the MPs to not only read into the constitution but to also understand the significance of the IGC (Inter-Governmental Committee) and the Cobbold Commission Reports.

“Let all the MPs realise that it is not merely what is written in the constitution or what was taken away intentionally or unintentionally over the years but also what is not written in the constitution but was in the original spirit of the IGC and the Cobbold Commission Reports,” he said.

“It is never too late to right what is wrong,” Dr Sim said in his winding up speech in the August House yesterday.

Dr Sim voiced his disappointment over the non-delivery of oil royalty increase and the 30% federal budget for Sarawak that did not materialise.

“I was very, very happy especially when the member for Kota Sentosa reassured our fellow Sarawakians of 30% federal development budget for Sabah and Sarawak, but instead not only the Federal Budget 2019 did not allocate 30% development budget for Sabah and Sarawak, but even some of the previously approved projects were cancelled or put on hold,” he lamented.

Dr Sim said his other disappointment was that after six months, some PH honourable members in the August House were still blaming the previous BN Government for their own failure in fulfilling their GE14 promises and pledges.
