MUKAH: A 66-year-old self-employed man died on the spot in a road accident at Km 52, Mukah-Selangau Road about 12 noon yesterday.

Juan Lium’s motorcycle collided with a Toyota Hilux driven by a plantation manager.

Mukah District police chief, DSP Jimmy Panyau, who confirmed the case, said the plantation manager was driving to Selangau from Mukah when Juan suddenly emerged from a road junction.

Jimmy said the Hilux driver did hit the brake, but Juan was too close, and so his car still went forward and hit the motorcyclist who was from Rumah Garuna, a longhouse at Sungai Temesu, Mukah.

“The motorcyclist was pronounced dead on the spot by medical staff from the local hospital, whereas the Toyota driver was unhurt,” said the police chief.

Juan’s body was taken to Mukah Hospital and the accident is now being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Land Transport Act 1987.
