LUBOK ANTU: 145 residents from Rumah Alo, Ngemah Ili, Ulu Lemanak became homeless after their longhouse was destroyed in a fire on Thursday night.
A spokesman from Betong Fire and Rescue Station (BOMBA) revealed that the station received a distressed call on the incident at 10.59pm.
“The fire not only razed the 23-door longhouse but also destroyed eight private houses located nearby.
“The initial information obtained from witnesses of the incident claimed that the fire started from the number six door of the longhouse,” he said.
Upon receiving the call, Bomba Betong rushed to scene with eight officers in three vehicles led by PBK II Jusmandie Jamaie.
Bomba managed to extinguish the fire which destroyed the entire structure of the longhouse.
“However, there were no casualties or injuries reported on the incident,” said Jusmandie.
He added that 13 other private houses near the longhouse were not affected by the fire.
The Long Ngemah Longhouse, Ulu Lemanak is only accessible via logging route using the four-wheel drive vehicle or through the river passage.
