MARUDI: The bodies of drowning victims, Mohd Zafril Waslie, 13 and his brother, Mohd Alyeff On, 14, were found yesterday afternoon. Their grandfather, Sujai Jaree, 72, was found floating in the Baram River on Friday morning. He had told his daughter that the trio would be fishing in front of the express wharf in Marudi.

The two boys were found a day later at 1.03pm and 2pm respectively. Mohd Zafril’s body was spotted near the jetty by some villagers while Mohd Aleyff’s body was found by the Fire Department’s scuba divers some distance away.

The location where Mohd Zafril’s body was found was said to be about eight metres deep. On Friday, Sujai’s daughter, Susilawati, 33, lodged a police report on the missing trio. Soon afterwards, Sujai’s body was found near the jetty.

A search and rescue operation comprising personnel from Miri and Marudi Fire and Rescue Department as well as Marudi Police was mounted immediately. The bodies were then brought to Marudi Hospital for post-mortems.
