MIRI: The body of a semi-nude woman was found floating near the Tanjong Lobang jetty here last Saturday night.

Miri District Deputy Police chief, Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the body of the unidentified woman was found by members of the public.

He said a police team was dispatched to the scene after being informed of the discovery at around 11.55pm.

“Initial inspection on the body revealed that the victim had sustained injuries on her right eye, scratches and bruises on her head, chest and both wrists as well as fingers,” he said here.

Stanley said further investigation revealed that there were no injuries caused by sharp objects.

He said police believed the victim had died not long ago based on the condition of the body.

“At the moment no one has witnessed this incident and we have not received a report of a missing person,” he said.

Stanley said the body was retrieved by the firefighters and was later taken to Miri Hospital for a post mortem.

“The case has been classified as sudden death pending the result of the post mortem,” he added.
