KUCHING: A team from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) was rushed to SJK(C) Sungai Tengah Matang following a mercury spill on Thursday morning.

A Bomba spokesman said four personnel from Petra Jaya fire station led by Senior Fire Officer II Wan Umar rushed to the school, about 20 kilometres away from the station, to clean up the spill after they received a distress call at 11.37am.

He said the firemen treated the area where the mercury had spilled with sulphur powder before rinsing it with bleach.

The spokesman further said an adhesive tape was also applied to the crease between the floor tiles to ensure no residue remained.
