Brunei golfer is S’wak Senior Amateur Open champion

KUCHING: Brunei golfer, Wan Man Wan Hil was crowned the Senior Amateur Open champion at the 24th Sarawak Senior Amateur Open Golf Championship recently.

The Pantai Mentiri Golf Club representative returned a total gross score of 157 followed closely by seasoned KGS golfer Jimmy Teo (160) and Kunjin Sandhu of KGM (162).

Held at Damai Golf & Country Club from July 8 to 9, tournament attracted a record field of 128 senior golfers from golf clubs throughout Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei.

Meanwhile, in the nett category, KGS Golfer Kuan Kim Long carded an 8 under 136 to emerge as the champion followed by Peter Umak @ Unggik (5 under 139) and Sia Chui Seng (4 under 140).

Prizes and trophies to the winners were given away by the president of the Senior Golfers’ Society of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam.

In his opening speech, Chan said the tournaments for senior golfers are not all about winning competitions but rather to reunite with old friends, renew long lost friendships, make new friends and establish fellowships.

DGCC general manager, Roslan Mohd Salleh in his welcoming speech thanked both corporate and individual sponsors of prizes for novelty holes and lucky draws to make the championship a tournament to remember.
