Busy with cake orders for Hari Raya

KUCHING:  What is Hari Raya Aidilfitri without the cakes?

During Ramadan, Nur Shahrina Paidin,30, of  Taman Trinora, Petra Jaya here was busy taking cake orders for Hari Raya.

The cake entrepreneur and founder of LovelyMia Cupcakes & Cakes  was grateful business had been brisk for her.

Shahrina,  a full-time baker, said her cake orders for  Hari Raya  doubled this year compared to last year.

She offered a wide selection of cakes, namely, Kek Lapis Horlick, Holiday Inn, Kek Lumut Cheese and Kek Belacan while her customers’ favourite was Kek Lapis India.

Meanwhile, 29-year-old Nornasheila Ahmad Zaidi  was involved in the cake  business for the first time this year .

“According to my friends who are also involved in the business, there is a slight fall in the sales of cakes this year,” she said.

“Most of my customers prefer buying half size cakes to save money,” she said, adding that her best selling cake was Kek Belacan Cheese.

Anisah Mohd Suut, 30,  the founder of Anisah Msuut Puteri Cake, also reported a slight decrease in the sales of her Hari Raya cakes this year compared to last year.

“The sudden rise in the prices of most cake ingredients made me take less cake orders this year.

“For this year, I just took orders from regular customers as I made the cakes myself,” she explained, adding that her best selling cake this year was Neopolitan Layer Cheese.
