PADAWAN: Padawan Municipal Council ( MPP) must change its mindset and start planning to become a city, Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said.
He said the MPP which evolved from Kuching Rural District Council (KRDC) over the years should not keep thinking that it is a rural council.
“You are a municipal now. There are only six municipals in Sarawak and I want you to start thinking how you can become a city instead of just being a Padawan Municipal Council,” he said.
Speaking at the 21st Anniversary Commemoration Day of MPP here yesterday, Dr Sim said in order to achieve that it also has to change its mindset. He said in the old days there was no road in the villages, the 10th Mile Bazaar was very far, there was no Giant (Supermarket) around, the St. Anne Church didn’t have 3,000 congregations.
“But now you (MPP) have so much development taking place with MPP areas and I am very sure you need to start planning to be a city. And that is why when you are planning to be a city, you need to change your attitude and thinking otherwise you will be forever at the rural district level and not even at a municipal level,” he said.
