TATAU: The Tatau Fire and Rescue Services Department (BBP Tatau) received a call informing about a road accident yesterday morning at 0701 hours.

It was stated the road accident occurred at Tatau-Bintulu Road along Selitut Tatau. BBP Tatau immediately sent its assets including one Atego vehicle and seven personnel led by PBK II Mamat bin Rhayi.

On the status of the incident, the first vehicle reached the accident site at 0715 hours. According to the operation commander, the accident involved a palm oil tanker hit by a Proton Wira sedan from behind. Both of the vehicles were coming from Tatau to Bintulu.

As a result of the mishap, the victim (the driver of the Proton Wira) was found stuck to his driver’s seat at the front. The victim was pronounced dead at the spot by medical personnel who came in an ambulance to the accident site.

PBB Tatau made use of ‘resque tool’ to extract the victim’s body from the vehicle. Later the task was taken over by police. Operation ended at 0845 hours.

The deceased victim was known as Sia Sung Hung (male), aged 27 years old holding MyKad number 910922-13-XXXX. His address was stated at Lorong 3, Jalan Sena, Sibu Sarawak.

Meanwhile, the tanker’s driver was stated as Umar anak Saeng (male), aged 54 whose address was given as Karangan Paso Ulu Mukah Selangau. He was not injured.

Besides BBP Tatau, others at the accident site were the police and medical personnel who came together with the ambulance, according to information obtained from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Services Department Operation Centre.
