KUCHING: The resurfacing of Central Road is not completed yet, said Kuching South City Council (MBKS), City Secretary, Vincent Ang.

Ang clarified to the media on Wednesday due to the allegation and issue posted by the public on regard with the road condition at Central Road on social media recently.

“We appreciate the concern by members of public when it comes to the safety of the public,

“The post saying that the work done is not up to the standard and using different materials for the resurfacing of the road is not true.

“Actually after the resurfacing of the road, the mainhole was not as same level as the road and we have to raise up the level of the mainhole,

“When we raise up the mainhole, we have to use concrete to make it done, after that we need to wait for the concrete to harden and set at least 48-hours before we could touch up of the bitumen to make the road smooth,” said Ang.

He added that the concrete was still not hardened and set yet and it was also depending on the weather before it could be filled up with bitumen.

“Meanwhile, the bitumen also needs to be dried first before we can make the road marking, if it is still wet and we make the road marking then the colour will be mixed with the bitumen and it will not be nice, white, clear and reflective,

“We are doing this according to the engineering best practice and very transparent. We like to clarify on that to let the public know that we are doing it properly, not sub-standard work,

“The public can contact to MBKS hotline at 082-238080 to clarify anything issue that they are concerned about as to avoid from getting any misunderstanding,” he pointed out.
