SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) will allow the selling of flowers and candles 14 days before the actual day of Ching Ming festival.
Chairman of SMC Datuk Tiong Thai King said the areas allowed for such sales are by the roadside along Brooke Drive after Kwong Ann Crescent, Sungai Merah town area and Deshon/ Brooke Drive junction.
“I would like to remind all the sellers to observe cleanliness strictly. All odds and ends should be put in boxes or plastic bags and to be taken away from the site and disposed of properly at the end of trading day.
“Council will not hesitate to take compounding actions against defaulters,” he said.
Tiong said this during full council meeting held at SMC office yesterday.
He therefore stressed that no sea of flowers and related items are allowed anywhere in the town centre except five-foot ways in front of existing floral shop, subject to application and payment of service charges.
