KUCHING: Member of Parliament for Bandar Kuching, Chong Chieng Jen brushed aside speculation of him being made Minister of Works during a press conference at the DAP headquarters here yesterday morning. Chong, who is highly expected to be given a ministerial post said that it was the prerogative of the Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to pick members of the Federal Cabinet. Chong said he leave it to his superiors to make that decision.

During the election campaigning period, the present Finance Minister, Lim Guan Eng who is also DAP Secretary-General had announced that Chong would be given a ministerial post. Chong who has been in politics since 1999 is the Head of Pakatan Harapan Sarawak.

When asked to comment on online news portal that Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian is tipped to be the Works Minister and his (Chong) name was not in the list, Chong said they will wait for Tun Dr Mahathir to announce new members of the Federal Cabinet and urged reporters not to ask him hypothetical questions as he is not the editor or reporter of the news portal concerned which published the news. Baru Bian when contacted said there may be some truths in the online news but preferred to comment when it is official.
