MIRI: The intention of six friends going for a vacation was unfulfilled when the car they were travelling in burst into flame at Jalan Miri-Bintulu near Kampung Rasau Kelulit here, yesterday morning.

In the incident around 11.30am, all the six victims in the car in their 20s were said to be on their way here from Bintulu. It is learned that the car driver saw smoke coming out from the car bonnet while they were on the way and immediately stopped the car by the roadside.

All of them then alighted from the car before the fire started to spread quickly and burned the entire car. Meanwhi le, Head of Mi r i Zone Fire and Rescue Services Department, Law Poh Kiong said he received a distress call on the incident at 11.57am and arrived at the scene about an hour later.

He added that six firefighters from the Miri Fire and Rescue Station went to the scene.

“Upon arriving at the scene, the firefighters found out that a Naza Citra car was burning and they immediately doused the fire completely.

Law said the operation ended at 1pm and no one was hurt in the incident. “The cause of the fire and the amount of loss are still under investigation by our forensic unit,” Law said.
