KUCHING: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is now more independent to develop Sarawak without having to abide by federal decisions because it is no longer bound by the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said GPS can make decisions on its own without having to comply with orders from the federal government.

“It is different now as this is a blessing in disguise for us as now we can voice out on any matter or interest regarding Sarawak, because only Sarawakians will understand Sarawak,” Abang Johari said in his speech when attending the eDOK Aidil Fitri celebration at Penview Convention Centre (PCC) at Jalan Bako near here, yesterday.

He added that back then, leaders from Sarawak had no choice but to listen to all the orders from the federal government, when BN was still in power. Earlier, Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development, Dato Sri Hajah Fatimah Abdullah said that Abang Johari had contributed a lot for the development which benefited the people in Dalat area. She added that the Chief Minister had brought four major development projects since he was the State Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

“Among the development projects Abang Johari had brought to Dalat are Dalat Waterfront Phase 2 (RM4.1 million) which is expected to be completed in June 2020, Centexs Dalat, Water Treatment Plant in Dalat District and also ‘Galeri Warisan’,” said Fatimah.

Apart from that Fatimah also congratulated the Chief Minister for the success of amending the Land Code Bill and also the Oil and Gas Bill during the current State Legislative Assembly sitting.

“It is for the interest of the people and the state, especially the land code amendment, as it will benefit the people,” Fatimah said, adding that the amendment of the Oil and Gas Bill would help to safeguard the state interests.
