CM graces topping out event of Ta Ann office

By Florence Genta SIBU: Ta Ann here yesterday marked another milestone with the topping out ceremony of Ta Ann office – new wing at Jalan Rawang, Sibu. Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg was guest-of-honour at the event held at its office in Jalan Rawang here.  In his speech to officiate at the event, Johari called on the timber industry players as well as oil palm industry players in the state to conduct research and development in order to be more sustainable in the future.  He said such inititative played an important role as it is in line with the digital economy activities and industrial forestry policy the state government is promoting at the moment.  According to him, Sarawak would be able to put itself in the forefront in terms of research and exploitation of resources that is managed well.  He said he had promoted industrial forest policy which could retain the primary forest and use planted forest for them to sustain in timber industry and the market is still there. “We will be able to manage our resources efficiently with available technology. That is why I go for digital economy, meaning you have data centre where you have all information to do researches,” he said. The Chief Minister said this during the topping out ceremony of Ta Ann Group building new wing at Jalan Rawang here yesterday. With the data and through technology, he said the labour could be optimised and at the same time a lot of scientists could be produced to come out with new products. Johari therefore also commended Ta Ann for taking the lead in research and development in which other players in the industry should emulate. “Ta Ann is not only involving itself in harvesting timber but doing research and development and that should become an example for other players in the industry.  “Thus, I must congratulate you because your company gives emphasis on R&D; meaning once you have a species that can grow well within short period of time then you can have your sustainable raw material for you to last long.  For Ta Ann to be sustainable, Johari said Ta Ann must have raw materials of its own.  “For you to have this sort of innovative, structure in your organisations...you do research on the tree, do research in palm oil trees and other planted itemss, meaning you can classify your products and you can be sustainable in the market and in the long run you can survive,” he said.  Assistant Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datu Len Talif Salleh, Ta Ann executive chairman Datuk Amar Abdul Hamed Sepawi, Ta Ann Chief Executive Officer Dato Wong Kuo Hea were among those present.
