KUCHING: The Sarawak State Legislative Assembly’s (DUN) logo, in conjunction with its 150th Anniversary was launched by Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg at new DUN complex here, yesterday.

“The launching of the logo was to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Sarawak DUN making it the oldest State Assembly in Malaysia.

“The celebration of the anniversary will be held for a year starting from yesterday through to 8 September 2018,” said Johari.

The 150th Anniversary of Sarawak DUN logo shows a graphic representation of the DUN building, whose architecture reflects the major ethnic groups of Sarawak.

As a unique and arguably the most beautiful parliamentary building in South East Asia, the DUN building also reflects change and continuity.

The golden pinnacle signifies the aspiration of the people of Sarawak for an open and transparent democracy and the execution of DUN’s legislative responsibilities towards development and economic prosperity.

The colours of gold, black and red indicate and reflect the unity of Sarawak’s multi racial and plural society.

Apart from that, gold also signifies dignity and sovereignty of the institution; black for formality and red for strength, courage and leadership.

The streak below the number zero (0) suggests a friendly gesture as we welcome local and foreign guests who visit this iconic building.

The Sarawak State Legislative Assemblies had previously celebrated its 100th, 121st, 125th and 135th anniversaries.

Johari added, for this year 150th Anniversary, a special DUN Sitting will be attended by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puah Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Ragad Kurdi Taib with all the Honourable Members of the august house.

Other celebration programmes will include the State Dinner, DUNs Bersama Rakyat, the officiating of DUN’s Exhibition, the launching of DUN’s e-Hansard, the publication of DUN’s 150th Anniversary book, the launching of DUN’s official song as well as Pentas Rakyat together with fireworks display, which will begin after the DUN sitting in November until next year.
