KUCHING: Sarawak has lost another prominent public figure and community leader, says  Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg when commenting on the passing of  Federation of Kuching Division Community Associations’ President, the late Datuk Sim Swee Yong here. 

He said: “ Datuk Sim  was a leader who focused on charity work  and uniting the Chinese community to work together with the non-Chinese community.

“He also emphasised on the importance of education for the people.

“Sarawak has lost a community leader who had done a lot for the betterment of the people and the state.”

Johari told reporters this after paying his last respect to the late Sim at his residence at  Everbright Estate yesterday.

The Chinese community leader died on Sunday night at Timberland Medical Centre at 8.30pm at the age of 85.

Well  known for helping the Chinese community throughout Kuching and Kota Samarahan,  Sim was  patron, president and chairman of various associations.

He left behind his wife, Datin Clare Sim, two sons and a daughter.

The wake will be held at St. Joseph’s Cathedral at 11am on June 21, 2018.    Earlier on in the morning, Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud  and former Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Abang Muhammad Salahuddin also paid their last respect to Sim.

Also present were Minister of Local Government, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, and Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, Tan Kai.
