KUCHING : The Sarawak State Treasury has appointed a consultant  to design the proposed Batu Kawa Wetlands Waterfront Park here.

Batu Kawa State Assemblyman and  Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian, visited the site recently. He was accompanied by the Padawan Municipal Council’s Secretary and officers from the consultant.

Sim assured the Padawan Municipal Council (PMC) would work closely with the consultant to ensure that tender documents were prepared as soon as possible.

According to him, if every thing goes on smoothly, the tender for the project may be called by January next  year.

The  proposed  project will be completed in stages. The consultant will design the work  for the  first stage. Other stages will be designed according to the funds available.

The Sarawak Land and Survey Department  advised the Sarawak State Planning Unit in August that the land required for the riverbank park had been approved.

The  SPU appointed the consultant in September to begin the planning and designing of  the  project.  Sim had, earlier this  year, proposed the Batu Kawa Wetlands Waterfront Park to the state government. The Chief  Minister, he said, approved the  proposal and allocated a sum of RM 5 million as  part of the expenses.
