Cops all out against online illegal gambling

KUCHING: Kuching police are determined to eradicate online illegal gambling activities.    

Kuching district police chief ACP Ng Ah Lek said the Criminal Investigation Division at the Kuching district police headquarters (IPD) conducted 72 raids on illegal online gambling premises and managed to make 117 arrests so far under Section 4B (A) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953.

He said via Ops Dadu launched on Jan 1, electricity supply to 26 illegal gambling premises was cut off with the cooperation of Syarikat Sesco.

“This is proof of our tireless efforts and determination to eradicate illegal gambling activities, especially in Kuching,” he told reporters after attending the Kuching IPD monthly assembly here yesterday.

Regarding get-rich-quick schemes, especially Macau scams, Ng said there was an increase of 23 cases (46 percent) until Nov 30 compared to last year.

He said 42 cases were reported until Nov 30 this year compared to only 19 cases last year.

In this respect, he reminded the public not to be duped by parties or individuals who try to cheat them but to immediately report to the police if they receive calls from suspicious persons or people claiming to be representatives of government departments or officials from Bank Negara. – Bernama
