KUCHING: Starting this year, food handlers at Ramadan Bazaars set up in areas under DBKU’s jurisdiction  will have to attend a course and undergo a medical examination.

This is in accordance with Rules 30 and 31 of DBKU Food Hygiene Regulations 2009.

Applications for lots to set up stalls at Ramadan Bazaar sites this year must include a copy of food handlers course certificate and a certified copy of typhoid vaccination from  qualified medical practitioners.

Failure of food handlers to comply with the regulation if convicted, could lead to a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding two (2) years for each offence committed.

A food handler’s card will be issued to facilitate the authorities in monitoring the stallholders

in every bazaar during Ramadan to ensure compliance with the regulation.

A list of registered food handler training schools and the medical examination forms can be obtained from  DBKU Licencing Office, 2nd Floor, Al-Idrus Commercial Center, Jalan Satok, here.
