KUCHING: Technical Vocational Educational and Training (TVET) should become the main choice for school leavers in order to produce a highly skilled society, said Director General, Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education, Professor Dato Ts Dr Mohd Ismail Aziz.

He added that through the Town hall programme, the ministry is getting the feedbacks from students in Sarawak in order to understand their aspirations and preparing them for the industry standards.

“The main focus for the ministry is to empower TVET among the people, which include the education aspect of TVET that is driven by the industry and also the international standards in preparing the students for the Industrial Revolution 4.0.

“The programme also aims to make TVET as one of the main choices for school leavers in an effort to produce a highly skilled society so that the country can step towards a developed country status in the near future,” Ismail told this to reporters when met after attending a ‘Town Hall Pemerkasaan TVET’ programme at Institut Kemahiran Mara (IKM) Kuching at Jalan Sultan Tengah near here, yesterday. He also pointed out that his ministry wanted to reduce duplication problems and at the same time improve quality according to the latest industrial standards.

“We must make sure that all the departments involved are also committed so that all the programmes would benefit the target groups,” he said. He added that over 90 per cent of their TVET graduates are employed in the relevant industry after completing their training.

“This shows that the demand is there and we are thinking five years ahead for the students in order to ensure their relevancy in the related industry,” he said.
