KUCHING: The Serian branch of Democratic Action Party (DAP) will hold a ‘TABUNG HARAPAN MALAYSIA’(THM) fund-raising dinner in Serian town soon.
The key people to organise the event have been identified but the venue is still not known yet.
The branch chairman, Edward Andrew Luwak said they are looking for a venue which can accommodate between 100 and 150 tables and is expecting a Federal minister to grace the occasion.
He added that the objective of the dinner was to arouse awareness, especially among the sub-urban and rural community that the country needs the support of all citizens to play their role in cushioning the government’s burden in settling debts.
“The people need to be aware that our beloved nation has incurred an unprecedented level of national debt and that there is a dire need to resolve this.
“Besides implementing prudent measures and spending the nation’s revenue wisely, the government also calls on its citizens to assist by contributing to the fund to speed up the nation’s economic recovery.
“The Finance Minister has assured that the THM would be managed systematically and transparently by his ministry. Hence, the people should not doubt that the money donated will not serve its purpose.
“Since the fund provides an avenue for Malaysians to help the government reduce debts, it also proves that Malaysians are patriotic and really love their country,” he said.
Edward also reminded the people that it is not the amount that counts but the sincerity in wanting to help the nation.
The branch hopes to raise at least RM12,000 for the THM during the dinner.
“We would be exceeding our target if we manage to raise more than RM20,000 which will reflect that the people in a rural town like Serian care for the nation,” he pointed out.

DAP Serian branch Service Centre at No 30, 1st Floor, Fortuna Plaza, Serian Town is ready to receive cheque donations with immediate effect and a record of all cheques received will be kept. The branch will acknowledge all cheque contributions and will assist in banking-in the contributions.
