KUCHING: Sarawak football squad (Crocodiles) head coach David Usop on Wednesday announced that he has resigned from the post with immediate effect.

The decision was made without pressure from any parties but with a sense of responsibility as a professional coach.

Usop, who became Sarawak head coach in May 2016, said his resignation followed a discussion with Sarawak coaching director Wahet Uji Wednesday morning.

He took over as Sarawak head coach from Datuk K.Rajagobal who was sacked after a poor run of results.

“I have not informed the FAS (Football Association of Sarawak) president (Datuk Posa Majais) and the team’s management of my decision.

“My decision to resign was due to the poor results, especially the three straight losses recently,” he told a press conference at State Stadium, Petra Jaya, on Wednesday. Wahet was also present.

Meanwhile, the FAS announced that Pengiran Bala has been appointed as Sarawak squad acting head coach with immediate effect.

Pengiran Bala, who is also assistant coach, will be in charge of the Crocodiles for the 2017 Super League and the Malaysia Cup 2017 competition.

“The FAS respects the decision of coach David Usop who wants to take a break. We would like to thank him for keeping Sarawak in the Super League,” said the statement. – Bernama
