KUCHING: The employees of Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) once again joined hands in carrying out a gotong-royong activity. Some 800 employees of all ranks took time to clean up their DBKU Head Office at Bukit Siol yesterday morning.

The Re-Think, Repair, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (5R) Buy Back programme was put to good use, with incentives given to those sections which managed to collect and their recycled items to the vendors. The Engineering Project Section came out top with 530kg of recycled items, followed by the Public Communication Section (405kg) in second place and the Health Environmental Section (388kg), third.

They were awarded cash incentives of RM500, RM400 and RM300 respectively. Meanwhile, DBKU managed to collect a total of 2,149kg of recycled items, fetching some RM480. DBKU hoped that the programme would be able to spur other government departments and agencies to carry out similar activities to clean up their compounds, thereby creating a clean and conducive environment to carry on the tagline of GO GREEN.
